Dolmen La Pierre Levée de Soubise

La Pierre Levée von Soubise (also called Pierre du Diable) is located on Rue du Dolmen near the D38 road between Brem-sur-Mer and Bretignolles-sur-Mer in the Vendée department in France .

The simple dolmen - Dolmen is the generic term for megalithic systems of all kinds in France (see: French nomenclature ) - with its 2.5 by 2.0 meter, 45 cm thick capstone made of quartzite , which rests on three supporting stones, lies on private property . More stones lay scattered on the remains of the burial mound. The unusual shape for France, with the sloping capstone, is reminiscent of portal tombs on the British Isles .

The dolmen, around which there are some legends, is one of several boulders , menhirs or stone tables with this name (Allinges, Arq, Artas, Beuvry, Jambes, Haillot , Lécluse - also in the plural as "Les Pierres") in Belgium , France and in Switzerland, it was on a large piece of open grassland until 2005, when it was moved near the roundabout on the D38.

In 1901 the remains of three bodies were found here.
