Pietà (15th century, Klausen)
The Pietà in the Catholic pilgrimage church of the Visitation of Mary in Klausen , a local parish in the Bernkastel-Wittlich district in Rhineland-Palatinate , was created around 1440.
This older of two miraculous images from the pilgrimage church is a work from Trier made of oak. It is 23 cm long and was re-1873 passed .
Ernst Wackenroder wrote in 1934:
“... a typical Vesper picture of closed form, with the body of Christ in an inclined position as a result of the withdrawn left foot of Mary, supported by her only under the neck. The body remains in front of the broad folds of the dress of the Mother of God, whose heavy cloak is pulled over the head, with the scarf as a frame underneath. The face is filled with real pain, with the gaze directed at the calm and majestic head of the son, whose face is framed by broad curls and a strong, parted beard. "
