Pietà in Jaligny-sur-Besbre

The Pietà in the Church of St-Hippolyte in Jaligny-sur-Besbre , a French commune in the Allier department of the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes region , was created in the 15th century. In 1906 the Pietà at the end of the north aisle was classified as a monument historique .

The life-size stone group of sculptures shows Mary with the body of Jesus on her knees. Maria is bent forward slightly, she is wearing a long, loose dress with many folds.
