Piet Steenbergen
Piet Steenbergen (born November 28, 1928 in Rotterdam , † April 22, 2010 ibid) was a Dutch football player .
biography
After the end of the Second World War in 1946, Steenbergen began his career as a football player at Feyenoord Rotterdam . In 1950, alongside Arie de Vroet, he was the first Dutch football player to move abroad and play for Le Havre AC for a year and a half . However, he returned to Feyenoord Rotterdam in the 1952 season and completed a total of 229 games for the club as a right midfielder , scoring 25 goals.
He was also appointed to the Dutch national football team twice , on April 16, 1950 in a friendly against Belgium and on May 1, 1955 against Ireland . On his second assignment, he was also the team captain .
After finishing his playing career, he remained active for Feyenoord and was their youth coach for four years . During this time, Wim Jansen was part of the youth team. After that he was one of the founders of the old men’s team (Oud-Feyenoord), in which former first-team players regularly play football matches and tournaments. He was also a member of the board of Feyenoord Rotterdam for several years.
