Pietro Antonio Bossi

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Pietro Antonio Bossi (born February 19, 1775 in Romans d'Isonzo , Habsburg Monarchy , † May 30, 1848 in Trieste , Habsburg Monarchy) was an Italian organ builder on the Adriatic .

Live and act

Pietro Antonio Bossi was born as the son of Valentino Bossi and Paola Poiani in Romans d'Isonzo, right on today's Italian border with Slovenia. He was probably a student of the famous organ builder Gaetano Callido in Venice .

In 1798 he married in Gradisca d'Isonzo and from there in 1799 built his first organ for the church in Perteole. Today this is considered to be his most valuable and best preserved work. This was followed by further new organs.

Around 1815 Bossi moved to Trieste , apparently because of financial difficulties. The German organ builder Carl Hesse probably worked for him from around 1833/1838 and possibly took over his workshop.

Pietro Antonio Bossi died in Trieste in 1848.

Organs

His organs are considered to be of high artistic standard and were solidly built. They show clear influences of the Venetian organ building style. Some organs from Bossi are known in the Adriatic region, some have been preserved.
