Carloni came from an Apulian family of artists and began his theater career at a young age in Ernesto Murolo's company . There he met his future wife Titina De Filippo in 1921 ; later he became one of the main actors in the theater company of the De Filippo family. After other positions (in 1935 he belonged to the group “Teatro Nuovo” in Naples, later to the troupe “Cafiero / Sumo” with Nino Taranto ) he remained connected to the family until his death; in 1967 he was seen alongside Peppino De Filippo at the Roman Teatro delle Arti in the comedy Come si rapina una banca .
