Pietro Masturzo

Pietro Masturzo (* 1980 in Naples ) is an Italian photographer .

Masturzo first studied international relations in his hometown of Naples. He then moved to Rome and studied photography there . Since 2007 he has worked with news agencies and leading Italian newspapers.

Masturzo visited the Caucasus several times and documented the Georgian-Russian war of 2008 with his photographs . In spring 2009 he was one of the first photographers to report on the earthquake in Abruzzo . A few months later, he was in Iran for the presidential election . Among other things, he captured everyday life in Tehran with his photos .

A picture of Masturzo was named Press Photo of the Year 2009. The photo shows three young women in Tehran protesting from a rooftop against the re-election of Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad . The jury chairman Ayperi Karabuda Ecer said at the award ceremony in Amsterdam: "It is a very intimate picture (...) It symbolizes how you can enrich a message and look at things from a different perspective."
