Pileni is a small atoll with only one island in the southeastern Temotu province of the Solomon Islands . It belongs to the outer islands of the Reef Islands in the northern area of ​​the Santa Cruz Islands .

The only village Lavakena is on the west side of the island, facing the lagoon . The population of around 200 people is of Polynesian origin. The inhabitants speak a language that is counted as part of the Samoan branch of the Polynesian languages. Pileni thus belongs to the outside of the Polynesian triangle lying Polynesian enclaves .
