Pinkerton's Colors was a British beat band from Rugby in the mid- 1960s had -years with pop singles some success in the UK charts. The band name was chosen based on Allan Pinkerton (1819-1884), the founder of the world's first private detective agency (" Pinkerton ").

Career

The group, which emerged in 1964 from the band "The Liberators" and was initially called Pinkerton's Assorted Colors , was influenced by the pop style of Jonathan King and a late bloom of the rampant Liverpool pop. The band was discovered by the music manager and later radio pirate Reg Calvert , who also managed The Fortunes and Screaming Lord Sutch .

On stage they wore different colored suits, had short hairstyles in the Mod style and used instruments that are atypical for the genre such as harpsichord and autoharp .

The band got a recording deal with Decca in 1965 and worked with producer Tony Clarke , who later became known as the producer of Moody Blues .

By 1968 the band released 6 singles . Her biggest hit was Mirror, Mirror (1966), which reached number 8 on the charts. In the same year Don't Stop Loving Me Baby also reached a chart position. After Magic Rockin 'Horse became a failure, the band switched from Decca to Pye Records and shortened their name to Pinkerton's Colors . However, there was no lasting success. The single Kentucky Woman again missed the charts.

After Bernie Bernhard left, Ian Coleman became the band's bassist. In 1968, after the entry of lead guitarist Steve James, the band renamed themselves again to Pinkteron's before re-establishing themselves as The Flying Machine to take a different musical direction.

Dave Holland later became known as a member of Trapeze and Judas Priest . Tony Newman was drummer with T. Rex from 1976 to 1977 , he also worked with Whitesnake , Gene Vincent , Jeff Beck and others. a. together, partly as a drummer, partly as a composer.
