Pinksterlanddagen

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Pinksterlanddagen is the largest anarchist event of the libertarian movement in the Netherlands .

history

Appelscha

Close to the Frisian town of Appelscha (municipality: Ooststellingwerf ), anarchist youths organized an event for the first time in 1924 on the site of “Ter Vrijheidsbezinning” (literally: To reflect on freedom ). Today's campsite was a potato field at that time and was bought in 1934 by “rich kindred spirits” ( rijke Geestverwanten ) for the then high amount of 500 guilders .

Appelscha has a long tradition of radical revolutionary socialism and anarchism. Already (on March 30th) 1889 the anarchist Ferdinand Domela Nieuwenhuis gave a speech to dissatisfied workers in the village in the presence of the then mayor, who noted the speech precisely. Nieuwenhuis was a notable person in Appelscha and the libertarian groups followed his changing political positions. Since then, the village has had a reputation as a stronghold of socialism and anarchism, of which the Pinksterlanddagen still bear witness today. The “Domelapad” promenade through the Southeast Friesland region and the neighboring Drenthe and Overijssel was named after Nieuwenhuis. Here the militant farm workers formed the basis for the activities of Nieuwenhuis. Before 1900 there were frequent strikes by workers and around 1900 there was a large wave of strikes. In 1970 the Provo Roel van Duijn was with the Pinksterlanddagen and organized a teach-in as the culmination of a propaganda manifestation for anarchism and for all anti-authoritarian movements in the Netherlands: pacifists , councilor communists , socialists and others.

Tot Vrijheidsbezinning in Appelscha

The "Stichting tot vrijheidsbezinning" (literally: Foundation for the consciousness of freedom ), which administers or organizes the Pinksterlanddagen , attaches importance to the statement that the visitors respect the freedoms of their fellow men. The initiators assume that all event participants feel jointly responsible as users of the site and have drawn up some rules for this: There are different containers for paper, glass and chemical waste in the village that should be used. There is also a container for normal waste in front of the site and a container for organic waste. No open fires on or around the campsite as there is a forest nearby. The site is accessible day and night, so do not cause any noise at night. The terrain Ter Vrijheidsbezinning is anti-military , alcohol and other drugs will not be admitted. Energy saving measures should be observed. Other free-minded groups are also welcome. A large building is available for readings, events, workshops , meetings and more. Participation in the Pinksterland Days is not free. There are also other tariffs for visitors who want to come before or after the Pinksterlanddagen event . The “Rampenplan” group (literally: disaster plan ) provides warm meals . Dinner costs around four euros. There is coffee, tea, sandwiches and bread in the canteen.

Activities 2010 and 2012

Various extra-parliamentary groups and organizations took part in the (as it is also called :) "political festival". "The anti Facistische Actie" ( Anti-Fascist Action ) from Utrecht informed about the "shameful treatment" ( schandalige behandeling ) of illegal aliens. “GroenFront” ( Green Front ) reported on the current climate crisis . There were also film screenings, readings, a theater performance of the circus "De Waanzin" ( Madness ), a book fair , workshops and performances by various bands and DJs .

A film documentary by Abel Heijkamp about "Anti-Kraakbureaus" (anti-squatter offices ) under the title "Leegstand zonder zorgen". Property owners try to counter the squatting, for example by accommodating friends or acquaintances in the vacant apartments so that no squatters can enter. As a result, commercial agencies ("Antikraakbureaus") were set up to accommodate those looking for accommodation in the houses. Heijkamp showed in his report that the "Antikraag" residents are almost without any rights.

The anarchist publicist Gabriel Kuhn gave a reading on libertarian movements outside Europe and the USA ( nietwesters anarchisme ). Anarchist initiatives in South Africa, China, Japan, Israel, Indonesia and Lebanon, among others, were discussed.

In 2012 the Swedish feminist Kajsa Ekis Ekman, the Palestinian activist Baha Hilo and the Canadian filmmaker Franklin Lopez were at the Pinksterlanddagen. Also from the USA activists from CrimethInc. as well as the Dutch group GroenFront! .

According to the "anarchist-communist principle" ( anarchist-communist principle ) "give according to wealth, take according to need" ( geven naar vermogen, nemen naar behoefte ), leftover and well-preserved food, which often disappears in rubbish bins, is taken away at the end of the event long table, they can be packed up and taken away. The events have been "alcohol-free" since the Pinksterlanddagen was founded . All year round, visitors are welcome to the Ter Vrijheidsbezinnung campsite. The site is managed by a permanent employee.
