Gabriel Kuhn (* 1972 in Innsbruck ) is a writer and author of books dealing with socialist theory and history and social movements . He publishes works in German and English.

Life and thought

Gabriel Kuhn grew up in different countries, including Turkey , England and the USA . After studying philosophy in Austria and the USA, he lived in the Middle East and the South Pacific island world before returning to the USA. He has lived in Sweden since 2007 .

Kuhn pursues the concern to bring theory into concrete relation to practice. Based on anarchist concepts, he refers to solidarity approaches that go beyond oppression . His writings are aimed primarily at activists and scientists in left and radical left contexts.

In January 2010, Kuhn was forced to cancel a lecture tour in the USA because he was not granted an entry permit.

Kuhn has been politically active since 1989. At the beginning of the 1990s he worked for several years in the TATblatt collective in Innsbruck and published for the anarchist Viennese publisher Monte Verita . In 1999 he was one of the co-founders of the Alpine Anarchist Productions (AAP) publication project.

Since his return to Europe, Kuhn has mainly published for Unrast Verlag . Become an animal, become black, become a woman. An Introduction to the Political Philosophy of Poststructuralism (2005) established itself as a left introduction to poststructuralism. ›New Anarchism‹ in the USA. Seattle and the Consequences (2008), a collection of contemporary writings by American anarchists and anarchist organizations, was named "Book of the Year 2008" by the Library of the Free . Bank robbery for liberation movements (2013) tells the story of the Danish Blekingegade group . Diversity - Movement - Resistance (2009) and Anarchism and Revolution (2017) are collections of texts and interviews on anarchism.

In the USA, Kuhn works closely with PM Press . This is also directly related to his translation work, which particularly affects the German anarchists Gustav Landauer and Erich Mühsam . Other publications deal with piracy , sports and straight edge .
