Pio Baldi

Pio Baldi (born June 6, 1945 in Rome ) is an Italian architect.

Life

After studying architecture at the Roman University of La Sapienza, Pio Baldi worked as a freelance architect for several years. In 1977 he became an employee of the Ministry of Italian Heritage and Cultural Activities. He also taught at various universities in Italy, but also abroad.

It was superintendent for environmental goods, architecture and landscape of Siena, Lazio, Calabria and Campania and was in charge of the General Directorate for Architecture and Contemporary Art (DARC Direzione generale per l'Architettura e l'Arte contemporanee), a department of the Ministry of Cultural Goods and Tourism , inside. Baldi was involved in numerous restoration of monuments and new buildings of cultural objects, including the MAXXI - Museo nazionale delle arti del XXI secolo , the National Museum of the Arts of the XXI, planned by the architects Zaha Hadid and Patrik Schumacher . Baldi was President of the Accademia di San Luca from 2009 to 2012 . On December 6, 2016, he was appointed President of the Pontifical Academy of Fine Arts and Literature by Pope Francis .

He is the author of essays, books and specialist articles on cultural and artistic heritage and contemporary architecture.
