Piotr Hofmański

Piotr Józef Hofmański (born March 6, 1956 ) is a Polish lawyer , university professor and judge at the International Criminal Court .

Hofmański studied from 1974 Law at the Nicolaus Copernicus University Toruń , where he in 1978 his Master of Laws acquired. He then worked there as a lecturer. After his doctorate as Dr. iur. in Toruń In 1981 he moved to the Silesian University in Katowice as a junior professor for criminal procedural law . There he completed his habilitation in 1987 and then became a full professor. In 1990 he moved to the University of Białystok to a chair for criminal law, where he was awarded the title of full professor in 1997. During this time, from 1994 to 1996, he also worked as a judge at the Court of Appeal in Białystok for almost two years . In 2001 he accepted a professorship in criminal procedural law from the Jagiellonian University in Krakow , which he has held since then. Since 1996 he has also been a judge at the Polish Supreme Court .

Hofmański has also been a judge at the International Criminal Court since March 2015 . His term of office is expected to last until 2024. He is also the author of numerous academic works, mostly in Polish or English, mainly on Polish and international criminal and criminal procedural law, as well as human rights law.
