Piotr Krzystek (born February 5, 1973 in Szczecin ) is a Polish politician and has been city ​​president of Szczecin since 2006 .

Life and work

Krzystek passed his Abitur at the 5th Lyceum in Szczecin . He then studied at the Faculty of Law and Administration of the University of Szczecin and graduated successfully in 1997. He then joined the city council of his hometown. From January 1999 to March 2002, as General Director of the West Pomeranian Voivodeship Office, he was in charge of the administrative reform implementation team. From November 2002 he was Deputy Mayor Marian Jurczyk and was responsible for real estate management, housing and construction planning. In 2004 he left the administrative service and started his own business with the law firm "Jankowski & Krzystek". In addition, from 2004 to 2007 he was President of the Association of Polish Municipalities in the Pomeranian Euroregion.

In the election for mayor in 2006 he ran as a non-party candidate with the support of Platforma Obywatelska and won the runoff election with 64.8% of the votes against Jacek Piechota from the left SLD . Then he also joined the citizens' platform. After the party executive of the Civic Platform in West Pomerania decided not to support him in the 2010 mayor election, he left the party again. In the 2010 local government elections, he ran his own election committee “Stettin for Generations” and was supported by the conservative Stronnictwo Konserwatywno-Ludowe. In the second ballot, he prevailed against PO candidate Arkadiusz Litwiński. In 2014 he was again elected in the second ballot. Also in the self-government elections in Poland in 2018 , he again applied for the office of mayor and narrowly missed the absolute majority of six candidates with 47.3% of the votes. In the necessary runoff, he then clearly prevailed with 78.2% of the votes against the PiS candidate Bartłomiej Sochański. In the election to the city council, which took place at the same time, its electoral committee received 26.5% of the vote and eight of the 31 mandates to be awarded.
