The Pirate Open Air has been taking place in Grevesmühlen since 2005 from the end of June to the end of August or the beginning of September . In 2019 the theater celebrated its 15th anniversary. It is one of the most successful open-air theaters in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania . The grandstand has a capacity of 1,600 seats and the stage has a playing area of 9,000 m².

history

For more than 13 years, the mobile pirate open-air theater was on the move in Germany, Europe and overseas, before it first stopped in 2005 with a permanent venue in Grevesmühlen. After the success, they settled down here and first settled on the Ploggensee with a permanent theater, before building a new and larger open-air theater in 2007 directly on Schweriner Landstrasse on an area of seven hectares.

In Grevesmühlen, too, it is a tradition to strengthen the ensemble with well-known stars. Among others, Martin Semmelrogge , Dustin Semmelrogge , Joanna Semmelrogge , Rocco Stark , Peter Bond , Katy Karrenbauer , Tanja Schumann , Felix von Jascheroff and Klaus Tilsner have already been seen on the open-air stage of the Pirate Open Air.

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic in Germany and the associated resolutions with regard to major events, the theater management decided on April 16, 2020 that the upcoming season, which originally started on June 19, 2020, would be postponed by one year.

Peter Venzmer has been director of the theater since 2005.
