Benjamin Kernen

Benjamin Kernen (born January 25, 1972 in Unterseen ) is a Swiss theater actor and theater director .

Life

Kernen grew up in Switzerland. In 1989 he passed his Abitur . From 1989 to 1992, Kernen trained as an actor at what was then the Zurich Acting Academy , now the University of Music and Theater in Zurich . He completed his acting training with a diploma as a federally certified artist.

After that he worked almost exclusively as a theater actor . He had permanent engagements and guest contracts at the Stadttheater Luzern , the Theater am Neumarkt Zürich , the Theater Nordhausen and for several years from 1997 to 1999 at the Theater Bielefeld Kernen played a broad repertoire on the theater stage , including the plays of German-speaking authors of the Classical and Romantic periods , but also Turn of the century, modern and contemporary theater pieces. He has been a freelance actor since 1999.

His stage roles included, among others: T (fish) in Youth Without God (1993, Theater am Neumarkt Zurich; dramatization: Jürg Amann ), The vain in The Little Prince (1993, Lucerne Theater), Zorzetto in the comedy Il Campiello by Carlo Goldoni (1995/1996 season, Theater Nordhausen; director: Jürgen Watzke), Major Tellheim in Minna von Barnhelm (1996/1997 season, Theater Nordhausen), Neoptolemos in Philoctet by Heiner Müller (Theater Bielefeld), Jojo in Das Herz einer Boxer von Lutz Hübner (1998, Theater Bielefeld), Filch in Die Dreigroschenoper (Theater Bielefeld), Jack the Ripper in Lulu (1998, Theater Bielefeld), Horace in Die Schule der Frauen (1997, Theater Bielefeld) and Mellefont in Miss Sara Sampson (1997 , Bielefeld Theater).

He also played at the Neersen Castle Festival. Since 2006 he has appeared several times at the Piraten-Open-Air in Grevesmühlen . In 2007 he was Father Angel in the play The Trap of the Spaniards . In 2010 he was scheduled for the role of the pirate Israel Hands, which he had to cancel for a short period due to illness; Martin Semmelrogge stood in for him . In the summer of 2011, Kernen took on the leading role of Capt'n Joshua Flint in the play Hell in front of Maracaibo at Piraten-Oper-Air and is also a co-director. Since 2012, Kernen has also been the director of the Piraten-Open-Air.

Kernen also took part in several theater tours. He has regular engagements at Euro-Studio Landgraf . There he played Egmont Clausen in Before Sunset (2009), best friend Philipp in the comedy The Measure of Things by Neil LaBute (2007-2010), the cynical and scheming work colleague Carter in the tragicomedy Fettes Schwein by Neil LaBute (2009 –2011, with Katrin Filzen and Martin Lindow as partners) and the son Philip in the play Zeitfenster by David Hare (2010/2011). Kernen stood at EUR studio Landgraf also the end of 2011 in addition to Doris Kunstmann in the play Roses secret of Neil Simon on stage. For the 2011/2012 season, Kernen was also scheduled to play the title role in a stage version of the novel Confessions of the impostor Felix Krull at Euro-Studio Landgraf , but had to cancel due to deadline reasons. In 2012/2013 Kernen was engaged as protagonist Samuel Hamilton at Euro-Studio Landgraf alongside Jochen Horst and Carsten Clemm in the stage version of the novel Jenseits von Eden .

Kernen also appeared as an actor in various independent theater groups and theater projects. As an actor, director and author he works regularly at the Free Theater Poetenpack in Potsdam and Magdeburg . There he directed the two Chekhov one- act plays The Bear and The Marriage Proposal , in which he himself also took on the roles of Smirnov (Bear) and Chubukov. In 2006 he staged the musical tragic comedy Mozart & Casanova there ; In 2008 there followed his stage version of Don Quixote .

Since the late 1990s, Kernen has also played a few film roles, primarily in short films and diploma films.

Kernen lives in Gägelow near Wismar .
