Pistyn ( Ukrainian Пістинь ; Russian Пистинь Pistin , Polish Pistyń ) is a village in the Ukrainian Oblast Ivano-Frankivsk with 4050 inhabitants (2016).

The village, first mentioned in writing in 1375, became rich through salt production, received Magdeburg law in 1756 and became a city with the right to self-government.

The Pistynka River near Pistyn

Pistyn is the only location of the same District community in kosiv raion and is at 400  m height on the banks of Pistynka ( Пістинька ), a 56 km long, right tributary of the Pruth . The village is located 9 km northwest of the Kosiv district center and 83 km southeast of the Ivano-Frankivsk oblast center . The regional road P-24 and the territorial road T-09-15 run through Pistyn . The wooden church of the Assumption of Mary from 1861 is located in the village .

Personalities

  • Hanna Vasylashchuk , Ukrainian decorative arts (art weaving) artist, was born in the town in 1924.
