The kosiv raion (Ukrainian Косівський район / Kossiwskyj rayon ; Russian Косовский район / Kossowski rayon ) is a Rayon in the Ivano-Frankivsk oblast in western Ukraine . The center of the Rajon is the city of Kosiv .
geography
About 90,000 inhabitants live on an area of 903 km² (as of December 1, 2001), the Rajon borders in the north on the Kolomyja Raion , in the northeast on the Snjatyn Raion , in the southeast on the Vyshnytsia Raion (in Chernivtsi Oblast ) South for a short distance to Putyla Raion (Chernivtsi Oblast), to the southwest to Verkhovyna Raion and to the west to Nadvirna Raion .
history
The Rajon was founded on January 17, 1940 after the annexation of Eastern Poland by the Soviet Union , then came after the beginning of the German-Soviet War in June 1941 in the Generalgouvernement in the district of Galicia and after the reconquest by the Red Army in 1944 back to the Soviet Union Ukrainian SSR . On December 30, 1962 the Rajon was expanded to include the areas of Verkhovyna Raion and parts of Kolomyja Raion and Jabluniv Raion , on January 4, 1965, the Raion was then reduced again and has existed since then in its current dimensions, since 1991 it has been part of present-day Ukraine.

At the communal level, the Rajon is divided into 1 city council, 1 settlement council, 1 settlement community, 25 district councils and 2 rural communities, each of which is subordinate to individual localities.
