Scheschory ( Ukrainian Шешори ; Russian Шешоры , Polish Szeszory ) is a village in the south of the Ukrainian Oblast Ivano-Frankivsk with about 2000 inhabitants (2001).

The village, first mentioned in writing in 1427 (according to another source, was first mentioned in 1445) is the only place of the district council of the same name in Kosiv Rajon at the foot of the Carpathian Mountains at 600  m altitude. In the village, where many traditions, handicrafts and folklore of the Hutsuls are still preserved, green tourism is actively being developed.

Scheschory is located on the right bank of the Pistynka ( Пістинька ), a 56 km long right tributary of the Prut , between the upstream village of Prokurava and the downstream village of Pistyn . The village is located 19 km west of the Kosiv district center and 92 km south of the Ivano-Frankivsk oblast center .

Personalities

From 1939 until the end of her life in 2004, the Ukrainian artist of decorative art (art weaving) and Taras Shevchenko Prize winner Hanna Vasylashchuk lived and worked in the village after her parents' house in the neighboring village of Pistyn burned down. According to other sources, she was also born in Sheshory.
