Brusturiw ( Ukrainian Брустурів ; Russian Брустуров Brusturow , Polish Brustury ) is a village in the Ukrainian Oblast Ivano-Frankivsk with about 1400 inhabitants (2001).
Since December 18, 2016, the resort, known for its artistic wood carvings, metal products, embroidery, fabrics and pearl ornaments, has administratively belonged to the rural municipality of Kosmatsch ( Космацька сільська громада Kosmazka silska hromada ) in Kosiv district .
The Church of the Assumption of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church , built in 1785, is a historical and cultural monument with its numerous works of art of the Hutsul culture. The village also has a people's house with a library and a village museum for folk art and handicrafts, a post office, a bank branch, and retail and catering establishments. The public transport links the town with a bus connection to the Rajonzentrum Kosiv and the city of Kolomyia .

The village with an area of 12,661 km² is located in the Forest Carpathians at an altitude of 581 m in the valley of the 15 km long Brusturka ( Брустурка ), a mountain stream that flows into the Danube via the Pistynka ( Пістинька ) and the Prut . Surround the village is from the mountains Брусний Brusnyj ( 944 m ), Віпчина Wiptschyna ( 764.5 m ), Гига Hyha or Білуха Bilucha ( 808 m ), Кичера Kytschera ( 942 m ), Буковець Bukowez ( 969 m ) and Клифа Klyfa ( 669 m ).
Brusturiv is located 9 km southeast of the Kosmatsch community center, 20 km west of the Kosiv district center and about 100 km south of the Ivano-Frankivsk oblast center .
history
The village, founded in 1609/1610, another source mentions 1671 as the year of foundation, was founded by Hungarian settlers from Transcarpathia in the historical region of Pokutien . Initially, the village was in the aristocratic republic of Poland-Lithuania until 1772 and was part of the Halitscher Land there within the Ruthenian Voivodeship . After the first Polish partition , the village came under the Habsburg Monarchy in 1772 and was located in the Kosów district of the Austrian crown land Kingdom of Galicia and Lodomeria until 1918 . Between 1895 and 1910, the ethnographer, writer and grandfather of Roman Schuchewytsch , Volodymyr Schuchewytsch ( Володимир Осипович Шухевич ; 1849-1915), spent his summer holidays in Brusturiw and researched the culture of the Hutsuls.
After the end of the First World War , the village was briefly part of the West Ukrainian People's Republic , was then occupied by Romanian troops for a few months and then part of the Second Polish Republic ( Stanislau Voivodeship , Powiat Kosów, Gmina Pistyń). With the Soviet occupation of Eastern Poland , the village fell to the Soviet Union in September 1939 , during the Second World War it was occupied by Hungarian troops in the summer of 1941 and by the Wehrmacht from August 1941 and incorporated into the Galicia district. After the reconquest by the Red Army in spring 1944, the village came back to the Soviet Union, which gave it to the Ukrainian SSR . In the 1940s and 1950s, around 70 villagers fought in the ranks of the Ukrainian Insurgent Army (UPA) against the Soviet Union. After the collapse of the Soviet Union in 1991, the village became part of independent Ukraine.
