The Piz Aul is a mountain west of Vals in the Valsertal with an altitude of 3121  m . Its summit offers a good panoramic view due to its geographical dominance . The south side consists of a mighty wall, to the north and east-north-east there are pronounced ridges.

Environment and development

South of the Piz Aul is the 3022  m high Faltschonhorn and in the course of the trending east-northeast Breitengrats the rises 2874  m high Piz Serenastga . To the southeast, the terrain slopes down into the upper Valsertal. The base for an ascent of the Piz Aul is the Leisalp near Vals. The easiest ascent ( normal route ) to the summit leads through the northeast flank from the Sattelilücke ( 2763  m ). More difficult is the way across the Breitengrat that after SAC-migrant scale with BG (old rating, new corresponds to "T6", equal difficult Alpinwandern, or at least upper "T5", equal sophisticated Alpinwandern) is evaluated. In 1909 the rockfall risk was first Ostwandcouloir committed that the difficulty ZS has. Entering the couloir requires climbing skills of UIAA grade IV- . In 1969 Konrad Berni and Markus Jörger successfully crossed the south face for the first time . The first winter ascent took place in 1973 by Konrad Berni and Ruedi Vieli. Other paths lead over the southern spur of the western ridge ( ZS , IV) and through the western flank ( WS ).
