Pyotr Grigoryevich Volkonsky ( Russian Пётр Григорьевич Волконский ; * 1803 ; † January 14, 1857 ) was a Russian prince and major general in the Imperial Russian Army .

Life

PG Volkonsky began his military career as a trainee in the Imperial Russian Navy and served on ships in the Baltic Sea . In 1816 he was promoted to lieutenant . In 1823 he moved from the Navy to the Imperial Russian Army and served in the Preobrazhensk Life Guard regiment . In the Russo-Turkish War he took part in the siege of Varna from 1828 to 1829 and was transferred to the Semyonovsky bodyguard regiment in 1828 with the rank of colonel . From 1836 to 1846 he commanded the Guard Grenadier Regiment of His Majesty the Tsar and was promoted to major general. In the same service position he took over the leadership of the 3rd Guards Infantry - Brigade .

Origin and family

PG Volkonsky came from the venerable princely family Volkonski , his ancestors and descendants mostly lived in and around Belgorod . His father was the influential Grigory Ivanovich Volkonsky (* 1759). Pyotr Grigoryevich married Katharina Mikhailnovna Schischmarewa in 1840. Her children were: Nikolai (* 1842), Michail (* 1846) and Natalja (* September 9, 1854 in Paris ).
