Pyotr Petrovich Stepanow ( Russian Пётр Петрович Степанов ; born January 2, 1959 in Sankino , Russian SFSR ) is a Transnistrian politician . From 2012 to 2013 he was Prime Minister of Transnistria, which is not internationally recognized as a state .

life and career

Pjtor Stepanow was born in 1959 in Sankino in the Chuvash ASSR in what is now Russia . He is an ethnic Chuvash . He completed his engineering studies at Bauman University Moscow . Stepanov has lived in Transnistria, at that time still part of the Moldovan SSR, since the 1980s . There he also experienced the Transnistria conflict , which ended with the country's de facto independence.

From 1996 to 2007 he was director of the “Tiraspoltransgas” plant. Stepanov was elected to the Transnistrian parliament for the first time in 2000 . In January 2007 he finally became Minister of Industry in Transnistria.

After the 2011 presidential election , he was appointed Prime Minister on January 18, 2012 by President Yevgeny Shevchuk . Since this post was only introduced after the 2011 election, Stepanov became his country's first prime minister.

On July 10, 2013, Stepanov resigned from his post. His successor was Tatiana Turanskaya .
