Chuvash Autonomous Soviet Socialist Republic
The Chuvash ASSR ( Chuvash Autonomous Soviet Socialist Republic ) was an autonomous Soviet republic in the Russian Soviet Federative Socialist Republic (RSFSR). It existed from 1919 until the collapse of the Soviet Union at the end of 1991. The capital was Cheboksary . The steppe area, which is characterized by agriculture and forestry , lies on the central Volga , is 18,300 square kilometers and is inhabited by around 1.5 million people. In 1991 the region retained its status and since then has belonged to Russia as a federal subject of the Republic of Chuvashia .
The Main Outer Belt asteroid (2670) Chuvashia is named after the Chuvash Autonomous Soviet Socialist Republic.
