The Place de Mexico is a square in the Quartier de la Porte Dauphine in the 16th arrondissement of Paris .

location

The rue de Longchamp , which runs from east to west, and the rue des Sablons , which runs from north to south, are interrupted here. The square also contacts the rue des Belles Feuilles , which runs north-west from here , the avenue d'Eylau , which runs south-east, and the rue Decamps , which runs south- west .

Name origin

Before the square got its current name in 1957 because of the nearby Mexican embassy (9, Rue de Longchamp), it was called Rond-Point de Longchamp.

history

Boileau and La Fontaine drank fresh milk in the former Ferme Magu .

In its place was once a farm (the "Ferme Magu"), on which the great French poets Boileau (1636–1711) and La Fontaine (1621–1695) on their excursions into the then still rural area at the gates of the French Capital occasionally took a break and drank fresh milk (see photo).

Sightseeing

The focus is on the sculpture Terre du Mexique en terre de France by Agueda Lozano , which Mexico donated in 2006.
