species
The World Register of Marine Species lists two species still occurring today:
- Planorbarius corneus ( Linnaeus , 1758)
- Planorbarius metidjensis ( Forbes , 1838)
Research history
Planorbarius was first mentioned in 1806 by Duméril in his work Zoologie analytique, ou méthode naturelle de classification des animaux, rendue plus facile à l'aide de tableaux synoptiques. mentioned with a brief description. The German professor of medicine and natural scientist Ludwig Friedrich von Froriep translated the work and added Helix cornea as a type of the genus that was monotypical at the time .
