Platform for Internet Content Selection

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Platform for Internet Content Selection ( English , abbreviation PICS , German for example: Platform for the selection of Internet content ) is a standard of the World Wide Web Consortium , which is intended to evaluate the content of websites .

The PICS labels are integrated into the header of the HTML page using meta tags . Website operators can either assign these labels themselves or use independent PICS services, which should ensure an independent and similar assessment.

By integrating PICS in web browsers or upstream content filters , it should be possible for parents and teachers, for example, to determine what their children or students are allowed to see on the Internet.
