XML information set
XML Information Set ( Infoset ) is a W3C standard with the status of a recommendation.
The Infoset specification serves as the basis for a number of other specifications which have to make statements about the formal information content of XML documents.
A well-formed XML document has an "information set". The "information set" of such a document can contain the following 11 types of information carriers ("information items"):
- The document
- The Elements
- The attributes
- The processing instructions (" processing instructions ")
- The unresolved references to entities
- The individual letters
- The comments
- The document type declaration
- The unprocessed references to entities
- The notation information
- The namespace information
The currently valid second edition of the Infoset Standard was adopted on February 4, 2004.
