XFrames

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

XFrames is an XML application developed by the W3C . It is used to combine several documents with one another. XFrames is intended to replace HTML frames . Since February 2008, XFrames has the status of a W3C working draft.

The creators of the design wanted to use XFrames to solve some problems that can be traced back to current HTML frames. These are:

  • The web browser's back button no longer works intuitively with normal frames.
  • It is not possible to bookmark documents in frames .
  • Sometimes unwanted results occur when the frameset is reloaded.
  • It is also possible to be trapped in a frameset, which means that the locations of the individual documents can no longer be traced. This is to be seen as a security risk.
