Platinum (II, IV) bromide is a black powder that is somewhat affected by water. It is sparingly soluble in ethanol and insoluble in ether. It has a trigonal crystal structure with the space group R 3 (space group no. 148) and the lattice parameters a = 2231.8 pm, c = 903.4 pm and c / a = 0.4048 and 36 formula units per unit cell . The compound was synthesized and investigated by Lothar Wöhler at the beginning of the 20th century.
