The Plavsko jezero ( Serbian - Cyrillic Плавско језеро ) is a lake in the municipality of Plav , in northeastern Montenegro.
The lake is located in a wide valley between Prokletije and the Visitor massif at an altitude of 906 m above sea level . It is nine meters deep, measures 2160 meters from north to south and up to 1400 meters wide. It occupies an area of about two square kilometers. The most important tributary is the Ljuča, the outflow is the Lim .
The Plavsko jezero has long been considered the largest glacial lake in the Balkans . However, recent research assumes that it must have been formed differently, since the glaciers should never have advanced that far.
Researchers have also detected 270 species in the lake.
The Plavsko jezero offers opportunities for swimming and water sports. It is a popular destination for anglers because of the pike and various types of trout .
