The Playfair Mountains are a group of mountains in southeastern Palmerland in the south of the Antarctic Peninsula . They stretch between the Swann and Squires glaciers .
They were explored and photographed from the air for the first time by participants of the United States Antarctic Service Expedition (1939–1941). The United States Geological Survey mapped them based on their own measurements and aerial photographs of the United States Navy from the period between 1961 and 1967. The Advisory Committee on Antarctic Names named them in 1968 after the British mathematician and geologist John Playfair (1748-1819).
