Playgirl
Playgirl is an erotic and lifestyle magazine thatappearsmonthly in the USA , in which men with bare chests or completely naked men were depicted. In 1973, at the height of the feminism movement, it was founded as a counterpart to erotic magazines for men (e.g. Playboy and Penthouse , which publish corresponding photos of women). Although distributed as a magazine for straight women, 30 to 50 percent of the magazine's readers were gay menin 2003. In 2010 the magazine assumed that the readers were predominantly male.
In 2009 the print edition of the magazine was discontinued and from then on Playgirl only existed online. Playgirl was relaunched in February 2010 and is again being offered in print.
The German edition of the magazine was discontinued in 2004.
Unlike Playboy, Playgirl couldn't convince many celebrities to strip for photos. In its early years, the magazine was able to win over the most successful Hollywood actors.
Among the few prominent nude and semi-nude models in Playgirl were Sam J. Jones , who a few years after the publication of photos in Flash Gordon played, WWE - wrestler Shawn Michaels , actor and singer Tyrese Gibson , singer Peter Steele , actor Brad Pitt , actor Sylvester Stallone and country singer Keith Urban , whose wife Nicole Kidman was impressed by her husband's nude photos.
In 1990, Playgirl offered Prince Charles $ 45,000 in a failed advertising campaign for a large nude photo of him in the center of the magazine. In another action in September 2002, the magazine published a series of nude pictures, which they called "The Men of Enron" (The Men of Enron called) and the former Enron employees showed that it had "lost" shirt.
Occasionally the magazine published photos of stars, on which, however, nothing more could be seen than in photos in "normal" (non-erotic) magazines, for example pictures from film scenes by Leonardo DiCaprio and Brad Pitt . The magazine often used photos of movie stars and celebrities as the cover page, but these were only interviewed or portrayed in the magazine - nude photos were the exception in later years.
Every year Playgirl publishes the "Ten Sexiest Men" and voted one of the men from last year as "Man of the Year".
