Jan Christoph Plefka

Jan Christoph Plefka (born January 31, 1968 in Hanau ) is a German theoretical physicist who works in the field of quantum field theory and string theory .

education

After his Abitur at the Eleonorenschule in Darmstadt in 1987 and subsequent community service, he studied physics at the Technical University of Darmstadt and the Texas A&M University , where he completed his studies with a Master of Science as a Fulbright scholarship holder in 1992 . He received his doctorate in theoretical physics from the University of Hanover with a dissertation on supersymmetric matrix models in 1995. In 2003 he completed his habilitation at the Humboldt University in Berlin .

Career

After postdoctoral positions at the City College of New York as a Feodor Lynen Fellow of the Alexander von Humboldt Foundation and at the Dutch Nuclear and Particle Physics Research Center NIKHEF in Amsterdam, he became Junior Staff Member at the Max Planck Institute for Gravitational Physics (Albert Einstein Institute ). In 2006 he received a Lichtenberg professorship from the Volkswagen Foundation in quantum field theory beyond the standard model and string theory at the Institute for Physics at Humboldt University Berlin. In 2014 he was visiting professor at the Institute of Physics at ETH Zurich . He is a member of the IRIS Adlershof . His research deals with theoretical high-energy physics as well as questions of quantum gravity and string theory, especially in the area of AdS / CFT correspondence and hidden symmetries in quantum field theory. The most influential work is the discovery of a hidden Yang symmetry in supersymmetric gauge theories together with James M. Drummond and Johannes Henn . Together with Henn , he wrote a textbook on scattering amplitudes in Yang Mills theories .
