Pleurosticta acetabulum ( Basionym : Lichen acetabulum , other synonyms including: Parmelia acetabulum , Melanelia acetabulum ) is a leaf lichen that lives on the bark.
description
The rosette bearings of Pleurosticta acetabulum can reach up to 25 cm in diameter. The upper side of the thallus is gray-green to brownish-green when dry, and olive-green when wet. The underside is blackish and has a lighter stripe on the edge with scattered rhizines . Sorale or isidia are absent. Fruit bodies ( apothecia ), on the other hand, are common, reach up to 1 cm in diameter and are characterized by a brown disc with a light, notched edge.
Occurrence
The species is largely restricted to Europe and can be found on the bark of - preferably free-standing - deciduous trees.
