Noël Martin Joseph de Necker (also Natalis-Josephi de Necker ; * December 25, 1730 in Lille , † December 30, 1793 in Mannheim ) was a German doctor and botanist of French descent. Its official botanical author abbreviation is “ Neck. "

Scientific work

Necker was the personal physician of the Elector Palatinate in Mannheim . In his function as "Electoral Palatinate Botanist" he mainly dealt with mosses . In his honor, a moss genus Neckera was named, which also gave its name to the Neckeraceae family .

From 1768 he was a full member of the Electoral Palatinate Academy of Sciences in Mannheim and since 1773 a foreign member of the Bavarian Academy of Sciences .

They are named after Necker, the moss genera Neckera Hedw. , Neckeradelphus Laz. And Neckeropsis Reichardt .
