Thoracic aortic plexus
The thoracic aortic plexus is a network of nerve fibers that surrounds the thoracic aorta . It belongs to the visceral nerve plexuses , the plexus autonomici .
The thoracic aortic plexus begins at the aortic outlet from the left ventricle , continuing the cardiac plexus and extending to the aortic hiatus (passage opening of the diaphragm for the aorta), where it merges into the abdominal aortic plexus . The aortic plexus is also connected to the pulmonary plexus and the oesophageus plexus via fibers which it sends .
Sympathetic fibers of the first to fifth thoracic ganglion and the major splanchnic nerve form the main component of this nerve plexus. In addition, the aortic plexus thracicus also receives fibers of the vagus nerve .
