The Plima ( Italian Rio Plima ) or Plimabach in the South Tyrolean Martell Valley ( Italy ) is a 28.5 kilometer long tributary on the upper reaches of the Adige . Much of the route is in the Stelvio National Park .
The Plimabach drains an area of 162 km² in the Ortler Alps . On the upper reaches of Hintermartell , the Plimabach was dammed in the Zufrittsee lake and used to generate electricity because of the floods that used to be caused by the snowmelt in spring . Due to the events in the neighboring Valtellina , the full dam was opened in the summer of 1987 after prolonged rainfall, which destroyed 16 houses.
Tributaries are the Rosimbach, the Soybach and the Flimbach. The most important localities on the Plima are Gand and Mieren in the municipality of Martell and Morter in the municipality of Latsch in Vinschgau .
