The classic, simple composition of a Plowman's Lunch consists of a thick slice of cheese (Traditional Cheddar , in Wales will Farmhouse Cheese preferred), a relish (often Branston , otherwise Piccalilli and / or Pickled Onions ), a thick slice of bread and butter .

Ham , lettuce and tomatoes can be served as a side dish .

The plowman's lunch is a typical dish that is offered in pubs .
