Plutonium Orange is a Finnish rock band from Jyväskylä that was formed in 2000.

history

The band was founded in early 2000 and meant that guitarist Juha Raivio and drummer Pasi Pasanen could play together again after many years. The establishment of Plutonium Orange also led to the formation of Swallow the Sun . Plutonium Orange was founded by Raivo and the guitarist and singer Samuli Liekkinen. After a few months they were joined by bassist Antti Sjöblom, whom they had met in a local bar. Pasanen became aware of his friendship with Raivio. In the spring of 2000 a first rehearsal was held for the entire cast. Their further rehearsals took place in the basement of the Finnish rock club Lutakko . In September of that year, the Fruit of the Loom demo was recorded within three days at Studio Watercastle in Jyväskylä . Plutonium Orange made its first appearance in December. Then another 15 to 20 more followed, among others together with Timo Rautiainen yes Trio Niskalaukaus . In 2002 the demo Waiting for the Gun was released . A third demo appeared in 2003 under the name Volume . The demo was recorded again in the Watercastle studio. After a long break, the group resumed their live activity in November 2007. In 2009 the debut album Volume was released via Firebox Records . Bring out Your Dead was released as a single in the same year .

style

In an interview with cosmiclava.com , the band stated that songwriting usually takes place in such a way that a riff by Juha Raivio is taken as the basis and the other members work on a song together. Fruit of the Loom covered topics such as speed frenzy, cruel women, mind-expanding drugs, and the music industry. However, the texts are not an important part of the group. Katharina Pfeifle from Rock Hard wrote in her album review on Volume that the music hardly resembles that of Swallow the Sun. Rather, you play lighter music and be on the “ metallic- melodic rock'n'roll side”. The melodies are very catchy and powerful and the nasal singing is also very distinctive. An influence from alternative rock can also be heard in the songs . Jan Müller from metal1.info could only partially agree with the term “Melodic Stoner Metal ”, which is often used by the band. To him it sounds more like rock than metal. The group cannot be heard of its Finnish origins, as there is fun and joy to be heard instead of gloom. The songs are straight and tightly arranged and mostly move in the medium speed range. Overall, he made comparisons with groups like Monster Magnet , Queens of the Stone Age, and Entombed .
