Plymouth is an American city in the state of Indiana . At the 2000 census , the population was 9,840. The city is home to the county seat of Marshall County .

Plymouth's geographic location is 41 ° 21 'N, 81 ° 19' W. The city lies on the course of the Yellow River . The urban area covers a total area of 18.1 km² , 0.14% of which is water.

The 9,840 residents of Plymouth, found in the 2000 census , lived in 3,838 households; including 2,406 families. The population density was 546 per km². By race, the population was 80.80% White, 0.63% African-African, 0.45% Native American, 0.50% Asian, 6.19% other races, and 1.43% multi-races . 14.99% of the population were Latinos.
Children were resident in 31.9% of all households, 45.3% consisted of married couples, 12.2% were headed by single women and 37.3% were not family households. 31.4% of all households belonged to a single person and 14.4% had at least one person who was over 65 years old. On average there were 2.48 residents per household, families had an average of 3.11 members.
The population of Plymouth was divided into 26.1% younger than 18 years, 12.4% 18 to 24 years, 28.8% 25 to 44 years, 18.0% 45 to 64 years and 14.8% with age over 64. The average age was 32 years. Overall, the ratio was 100 women to 93.5 men and among adults 100 women to 89.5 men.
Income averaged $ 34,505 per household and $ 41,417 per family. Males had an average annual income of $ 30,444 compared to $ 21,293 for women. In the fall of 1977, Plymouth High School won the Football State Championship . In March 1982, Scott Skiles led the Plymouth High School boys' team to the Basketball State Championship with a 75-74 win after double overtime against Gary Roosevelt High School .
In July 1982, five firefighters died in a car accident on State Road 17. When turning, the driver lost control of the fire engine as the fire water shifted. The fire truck drove through the guardrails and had an accident. Later investigations revealed that the reason for the operation was not a real emergency, but a bad joke by local youths.
