Pneumaturia

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Under a pneumaturia ( ancient Greek πνεῦμα pneuma , German , air ' ; οὖρον ouron , German , urinary' ) is the elimination of gases with the urine .

causes

Emphysematous cystitis on computed tomography (lung window for better contrasting of the gas deposits).

In some cases, the cause is a fistula formation between the urinary bladder and an air-containing hollow organ such as the large intestine or vagina , which can occur as a complication of chronic inflammatory bowel diseases such as Crohn's disease , an operation, diverticulitis or colorectal carcinoma . In addition, diabetics rarely have urinary tract infections with microorganisms ( bacteria , Candida albicans ) which enzymatically break down the increased amount of glucose excreted in the urine with the formation of gas ( emphysematous cystitis ).
