The Austrian literary magazine Podium provides contemporary literature from Austria and abroad . It has been published quarterly since 1971, and since 2000 as a biannual double issue in book format. Each issue is dedicated to a topic or the literature of a country, and it also contains current texts in the "workshop", book reviews and (photo) illustrations.

The magazine is funded by the culture department of the Lower Austrian provincial government , the culture office of the city of Vienna and the federal chancellery - arts section.

The founding of the magazine goes back to the literary circle Podium , a literary initiative founded in 1970 in Neulengbach Castle , the aim of which was to establish a separate literature platform in Lower Austria by publishing a magazine, among other things. The driving forces behind the company were Wilhelm Szabo , Alois Vogel and Alfred Gesswein .

In memory of the founder Alfred Gesswein, who died in 1983, the podium awarded the Alfred Gesswein Literature Prize, endowed with 2000 euros, every two years from 1993 to 2009 . In accordance with the diverse work of the namesake, the competition was advertised for different areas. The Alois Vogel Literature Prize has been announced every two years since 2012 by the Podium literary group. The prize money of 7,000 euros (as of 2018) is donated by the culture department of the State of Lower Austria and the Rotary Club Geras . Prize winners are: Carolina Schutti (2012), Armin Baumgartner (2014), Barbara Keller (2016), David Fuchs (2018).

In 2019 the literary circle Podium was awarded the special prize of the Lower Austrian Culture Prize (appreciation prize).
