Alois Vogel (born January 1, 1922 in Vienna - Favoriten ; † April 2, 2005 in Pulkau ) was an Austrian writer.

Life

Alois Vogel completed an apprenticeship as a precision mechanic because his parents could not finance him. During the Second World War he had to serve as a soldier. After the war he was able to study painting at the Academy of Fine Arts in Vienna .

He first appeared in public with poems in the magazines Neue Wegen and Wort in der Zeit . His first stories appeared in 1954 and 1956 in the anthology Voices of the Present , edited by Hans Weigel. In 1959 he published his debut novel " The Other Face ". In the following years he worked as a freelance writer and in 1971 was involved in founding the literary magazine " Podium ". He was also the editor of the newspapers “ Configurations ” and “ Lyrik aus Österreich ”.

His works reflect Austria in the 20s and 30s and thus also his own youth in the working-class districts of Vienna.

Since 1976 he lived in Pulkau in Lower Austria , where he also died. On April 15, 2007, a memorial plaque was unveiled here in the Pöltingerhof on the occasion of the second anniversary of his death .
