Amarula Cream

Amarula is a South African brand of spirits and especially known for the eponymous Wildfrucht- cream - liqueur . It is flavored with a distillate made from the fruits of the marula tree and tastes of slightly fruity caramel . The liqueur is available in more than 100 countries worldwide.

The manufacturer of the liqueur is the Amarula Distillers Corporation from Stellenbosch in South Africa. In Germany, Amarula is sold by Semper idem Underberg , a company of the Underberg Group.

Manufacturing

The marula tree only grows in subequatorial Africa, in the Kruger National Park wildlife sanctuary , in Botswana , Swaziland , Namibia and Zimbabwe .

The marula trees, which are deciduous but drought-resistant, reach heights of 9-18 m and bear 500 kg or more of fruit a year. Usually the male and female flowers appear on different trees in spring, but they can occasionally appear on the same tree. The male flowers produce pollen, while the female trees ultimately bear the yellow marula fruits in midsummer.

The first olive-green, then golden-yellow fruits of the female marula tree are harvested in February, the South African midsummer. The fruit is elongated in shape and the size of a medium-sized plum. The ripe fruit has a leather skin that surrounds white, fibrous flesh and a large stone. The marula fruit is rich in vitamin C , potassium , calcium and magnesium . The stone contains two or three kernels that are rich in oil and protein.

After the harvest, the kernels are removed, the meat is pressed out of the shell and then fermented . After the fermentation process, the fresh Marula wine is double- distilled and the distillate is then stored in oak barrels for two years. Finally, sugar and cream are added and the finished liqueur is bottled.

This primarily researches the way of life, the range of motion and the behavior of the African pachyderms with the aim of protecting the elephant's habitat and securing their future in the wild.

Amarula has also been available in food retailers in Germany since the 1990s .
