Pointe Lachenal is a mountain in the Mont Blanc massif in the French Alps . It is located above the Glacier du Géant and under the east face of Mont Blanc du Tacul and opposite the Aiguille du Midi . The well-known section of the ridge has four peaks famous for the huge wall of clean and steep granite on the southeast side. Popular alpine tours such as the north face ascent of Mont-Blanc lead over the ridge of Pointe Lachenal, a popular place for hard via ferratas . This peak was named in honor of the famous French alpinist and alpine guide Louis Lachenal (1921–1955), who had an accident on November 27, 1953 below this mountain on Glacier du Géant. In the Annapurna Himal mountain range we find a peak with the same name, the Lachenal Peak (7.140 m).
