The pointer nunatak is a distinctive nunatak in the East Antarctic Coatsland . It rises 1,235 m high immediately east of the Wedge Ridge in the western part of the Shackleton Range .
It was mapped in 1957 by participants in the Commonwealth Trans-Antarctic Expedition (1955-1958) under the direction of the British polar explorer Vivian Fuchs (1908-1999). It was so named because it is an important landmark for the route from Blaiklock Glacier to Stratton Glacier , which provides access from the western to the eastern section of the Shackleton Range.
