Poldi Waraschitz
Poldi Waraschitz (born October 29, 1900 in Lassee , † November 25, 1970 in Munich ) was an Austrian film actor and life artist.
Life
Known as the “Schnorrerkönig”, the Viennese was the second of fourteen children. At the age of 14 he began an apprenticeship in a tailor's shop, but broke it off to work as an extra at the theater. At the age of 22 he led his own smear theater group . He spent a time in Berlin as a journalist and with PR for the Hotter brothers. He is considered to be the discoverer of actors like Magda Schneider and Hans Söhnker . Then Waraschitz became a restaurateur and ran bars in various cities. Most of the time, however, the bon vivant lived on the money of his wealthy friends, including Toni Sailer and Rudolf Prack .
Waraschitz was recognized as a “pump genius” in the international press. Billy Wilder planned, at least that's how it read, to make a film of his life.
