Polissoir of the Sept coups d'épée
The Polissoir des Sept coups d'épée , also known as the Polissoir à Buno-Bonnevaux , is a sandstone block with grooves that are considered Neolithic . Originally it was near the old Roman road Chemin de Grimery on the edge of the field on a plateau overlooking the Essonne valley between the municipality of Buno-Bonnevaux and the airport (aérodrome Buno-Bonnevaux) in the extreme southeast of the Essonne department in France . It was only 40 m from the even larger Polissoir de Grimery , but was later moved to the garden of the Saint-Léger church in Buno-Bonnevaux, where it can be viewed.
description
The approximately 80 centimeter high stone has seven parallel grooves on one side. Such stones are called polissoirs (polishing stones) in French archeology . It is believed that the grooves were made in the Neolithic Age when the stone was used to sharpen ax blades. Most of the stone axes in this region were made from flint .
The stone has been registered as a historical monument in the French monument list Base Mérimée since 1928 . In France, 66 stationary sharpening and grinding stones stand as monuments historiques under monument protection , eight of which were found in Essonne department.
In the village is the two hypogea Champtier des Bureaux and Fontaine Saint-Léger .
