The hypogeum of Fontaine Saint-Léger ( French Hypogée du Bassin de la Fontaine Saint-Léger ) is located east of Buno-Bonnevaux , near Etampes in the south of the Essonne department in France . The hypogeum , discovered and cleared out by a farmer in 1868 , has been registered as a Monument historique since 1973 . It was examined in 1870. The first description comes from Louis André in 1885.

The grave was carved into the sandstone about 8.0 m above the floor of the dry valley of Fontainebleau. The chamber has a rectangular shape (3.4 × 3.7 m) and a height between 0.8 and 1.3 m. The walls of the chamber and gear are as dry masonry of limestone slabs erected associated with clayey soil. The same type of stone was used as the 3.0 to 6.0 cm thick slab layer of the floor. The access to the chamber through a narrow, 2.8 m long, sloping corridor is in the south-west corner. According to Louis André, the chamber ceiling consisted of large panels and a large panel closed the entrance. All these plates are of local origin and have disappeared since their discovery.

Archaeological excavations

The Neolithic grave contained the disordered residues from about 40 individuals, according Brizemeure. The archaeological finds that were lost consisted of eight blowstones, eight large blades, four arrowheads , three vases (including two complete ones), two small polished axes, two scrapers, a drill, and a few pottery shards.

Gérard Bailloud connects this tomb with the Seine-Oise-Marne culture (SOM culture). The C14 dating corresponds to the period between 2487 and 2048 BC. Chr.

In the place is the hypogeum of Champtier des Bureaux and the Polissoir des Sept coups d'épée .
